Dabangg is my film too

Juggling Rowdy Rathore, SOS – Son Of Sardar and Lootera, all three of which will release before Dabangg 2 this Christmas, Sonakshi Sinha is apparently pressed for dates for her mentor Salman Khan. Not only has she delayed the launch of the film’s sequel, but she’s also kept an item number featuring 400 dancers on hold.

Quiz her about this and the actor admits she’s been busy with back-to-back projects, dates for which were already alloted. “But I’d never stall another project, and we’ve never had 400 dancers hanging around on the sets of Dabangg 2, waiting to shoot. These rumours are silly and untrue,” she protests.

Apparently, Salman is also upset with her for divulging details about the under-wraps film in conversations with her staff on the sets of SOS and Sonakashi says, “Even if I speak about Dabangg 2, what’s the harm? It’s as much my film as anyone else’s!”

Two years ago, Dabangg ended with Rajo admitting to her cop-husband, Chulbul that she was pregnant. Will Part 2 turn her into Mummy Pandey? She laughs, “Now you’re fishing for details. You’ll have to wait to see the film to know that. Everyone seems eager to turn me into a mummy.”

Meanwhile, on June 1, she has Rowdy Rathore with Akshay Kumar coming up. The film has already been made in Telugu as Vikramarkudu (2006), in Kannada as Veera Madakari (2009) and in Tamil as Siruthai (2011). And Sonakshi’s certain that the Hindi remake, helmed by Prabhudheva, will also find an audience.

“Not everyone will have seen the South movies, and in Hindi, it’ll have a different flavour. Language is no bar for inspiration, but you can’t make the same movie again and again,” she argues.

“I’ve seen the Telugu version and enjoyed it thoroughly. But I can promise you that Rowdy Rathore is not Vikramarkudu.”

Sonakshi In Judwaa 2

Sonakshi Sinha is on a roll. Filmmakers are making a beeline to cast this fresh face in their ambitious ventures.

And the latest to join the bandwagon is producer Sajid Nadiadwala who wants to pencil her in one of the leads of Judwaa 2. "Sajid is remaking his 1997 hit the Salman Khan starrer Judwaa. But with a lot of changes and has wants Sonakshi to play the female lead."

Reports have it that the original director, David Dhanwan, has been replaced by Sajid Khan, and Saif Ali Khan is to step in Salman Khan's shoes.

"Sonakshi Sinha has been almost finalised to play the female lead," said our source. Karisma Kapoor and Rambha played the female leads in the original.

Play Mom in Dabangg 2

There’s still four months to go before Sonakshi Sinha starts shooting for Dabangg 2 in March 2012. A year ago, buzz was that the film could either move forward with Rajjo and Chulbul Pandey becoming parents, or go into flashback mode. Sonakshi, who is preparing to play Rajjo again, opposite Salman Khan, admits the story moves forward in the sequel to her hit debut.

“I don’t think I can divulge too much about a film that’s yet to go on floors. Arbaaz (director, producer and script writer) may not like it. We have to try and keep as much as we can under wraps till the film’s release, next Christmas,” says Sonakshi, adding, “Since I was shown pregnant in the last few frames of the film, I’m quite sure I’ll be playing mommy to Chulbul Jr. Actually, I wouldn’t mind if he also sports a moustache like his handsome father!”

It’s said that even before the script for the sequel to her debut was sealed, Sonakshi was offered Race 2, the sequel to the 2008 movie, Race. The actor had even expressed in February this year that she was looking forward to presenting herself in a completely western avatar in the movie. However, she’s no longer part of the cast now. “I feel bad. I agreed to do the film, but it got delayed, and I moved out,” she says, adding, “Dabangg 2 was announced soon after.”

Sonakshi is completing work on Shirish Kunder’s Joker, and will then begin shooting for the period romance, Lootera, with Ranveer Singh in December. “Then, I’m back to my saris in Dabangg 2,” she says.

Son of Sardar - Comedy Film

Rumours have been rife about the eminently in-demand Sonakshi Sinha doing this and that new offer. But Sonkashi has been turning down assignments with dogged regularity. In the last six months Sonakshi has signed only one film, and that’s Ashwin Dheer's comic adventure film Son Of Sardar where Sonakshi is obviously not playing the title role.

Says a source close to Sonakshi, "Nor did she play the title role in Dabangg or Joker. Salman and Akshay Kumar play the title role. But Sonakshi made her space.

She loves her role opposite Ajay Devgn in Son Of Sardar. And is in fact the only actress of her generation who is not intimidated by senior superstars... Salman, Akshay Kumar now Ajay Devgn."

However it's not as though Sonakshi is averse to working with younger co-stars. A film with Ranveer Singh is on the anvil.

At the moment Sonakshi is only confirming her presence in Son Of Sardar.

"At last some news that is true," Sonakshi chuckles, referring cleverly to various rumours about her including the latest that claims she refuses to work with Shahid Kapoor. As a matter of fact she is looking forward to working with him.

Says Sonakshi, "For now I can only say I'm looking forward to Son Of Sardar. It's the kind of role I was looking forward to for a while. I am doing this film because it’s a wonderful script, extremely funny."
